The Israeli army has yet again unleashed an attack on Gaza in this blessed month of Ramadan killing innocent men, women and children. The world's and especially the Muslim leader's response was shameful to say the least. But the Muslim Ummah from east to west showed they care about the bloodshed and the killing of Muslims; they came out in rallies all over the world protesting the atrocities of the Jewish state. The issue of Palestine matters to every Muslim and is an Islamic issue by nature. Any solution presented by the world powers, the United Nations, the Arab leaders is not the right solution. The whole world cares about the security of the Jewish state more than the lives of the Muslims and every solution presented will be around the security and welfare of the Jewish state. We the Muslims in the US have a duty towards our brothers and sisters in Gaza and the rest of the world. With this recent development, Hizb ut Tahrir -- America organized this Lecture on Friday July 18th to address our responsibility toward Gaza and how we as part of the Ummah should respond to such atrocities. Let's be honest we all know fasting in the long days in the summer heat is going to be difficult! The aim for all Muslims should be to attain Taqwa in the month of Ramadhan, but how many of us know what Taqwa really means? Allah legislated fasting for gaining Taqwa, "O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it has been prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa." [Noble Quran 2:183] Here's some brief explanations by the scholars to help us understand. Insha'Allah. Abu Qasim (rahimahullah) said that whoever fears something runs away from it, and whoever fears Allah runs to Him. (Ihya Ulum 4/153). Abu Hafs (rahimahullah) said Khawf is the whip of Allah that disciplines those who desert Him. Khawf is a lamp in the fear: a person can see by its light what is good and what is evil. Everybody who fears creation runs away from it. Those who fear Allah run to Him. (Madirij Salikin 1/550 and Qushariyah epistles). Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullah) said escaping means to run away from something to something. There are two kinds of escape: one of the fortunate and the other of the unfortunate. The unfortunate run away from Allah, not to Him. The fortunate run to Him. As running away from Him to Him, that is escape of His friends. (Ibid 1/504) Keep Reading »
